Waste and Recycling Program

Service:  Weekly curbside pick-up of waste and every other week for recyclable items
Day:  Monday mornings 
Time:  Trash and Recycle totes must be placed curbside by 6:00 AM (trash can be placed out on the previous night but no earlier than 7:00 PM)

Trash and Recycling Containers: The service includes: One (1) Trash Tote and One (1) Recycling Tote

RULES & RESTRICTIONS:

Recyclable item pick-up:

By local ordinance recyclable materials that must be picked up by a contracted hauler through curbside collection
include:
• Containers -steel, aluminum, bi-metal, glass, #1 & #2 plastic
• Paper - corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, office paper and junk mail

The "NO" List - See other service providers below to dispose of these items
• No yard waste
• No car parts, tires or batteries – Hazardous waste
• No hazardous materials: Solvents, fuels, chemical, paints, oil
• No waste motor oil or oil filters
• No computer parts or monitors
• No appliances - washers, dryers, ovens, water heaters, water softeners, garbage disposals

IMPORTANT NOTES:
to New Residents:
The previous homeowner should leave the containers for the new homeowner. If not, call Waste Management let them know you are on the “Westchester Lakes Account” and request that the containers you need be delivered to your home.
to Realtors:
Waste collection fees are included in a Homeowners HOA fees.

OTHER WASTE MATERIALS

Waste Motor Oil & Filters:
Mequon residents may deposit used motor oil and oil filters on the south side of the City Maintenance Shop located at 10800 N Industrial Drive

Household Hazardous Waste:
Call Onyx Environmental Services in Port Washington for more information. A fee for disposal will be required.

Brush & Yard Waste:

BRUSH AND YARD WASTE DISPOSAL CENTER
LOCATION: 6000 W. Bonniwell Road across from the Mee Kwon Golf Course
Permit Required: Yearly permit entitles you to unlimited use of the center when open. (Approximately April through November)
Hours: Inclement weather may require us to close the center earlier or to not open on a particular day.

Rules and Restrictions:
1) Only brush and yard waste from a residential lot in the City of Mequon is accepted. A commercial service can be used, but the property owner must accompany or meet the driver at the site. Permit holder must be with the hauler. Commercial dumping is not allowed. A driver’s license and permit must match up to admit you or a family member.
2) Brush and branches up to 6” in diameter “only”. Yard waste shall be separate. No logs, stumps, railroad ties,
construction lumber, rocks, sod, etc. Residents dumping unacceptable material will be cited. Please follow the instructions of the operator at the site. He has instructions to inspect your load and advise you of any material that cannot be accepted.Revocation of the permit will result for repeat violators of the City policies.
3) Yard waste shall only consist of the following materials. Grass, leaves, weeds, typical garden waste and soft body green herbaceous material under 1” in diameter, are accepted for composting purposes. Yard waste does not mean railroad ties, rocks, stumps, stones, etc. Yard waste can be delivered to the site in any manner. However, no bags, boxes or any other receptacles shall be left on site.
4) Do not dump anything outside of the fenced site. Brush dropped off at the site must be placed in the specified area. Follow the operator’s instructions. Violators will be cited and/or have permit revoked.
5) Wood chips, logs for firewood and compost are available for City of Mequon residents. No permit is necessary if you are only taking chips, logs and compost. A driver’s license is needed for admittance. Logs and wood are from the City’s tree trimming operations. It will require additional cutting and splitting. The City provides no assistance in loading. No commercial equipment to assist in loading is allowed on site and load size is limited to approximately two cubic yards.
